One of the first questions I always ask my wedding couples is how they first met. It’s so cute to see them light up telling their love story or laughing at how one of them remembers it happening in totally different way! Reminiscing is a great way to relive those butterfly moments or laugh when it maybe wasn’t all warm and fuzzy. Let’s just say that for Justin and me, it was NOT love at first sight…
It was the typical Thursday night happy hour when this hottie walked into the bar. It was good ol’ Casey Jones. Yes, you read that right. The bar. We met at a bar. Get over it. 😉 He looked great and me…well, I was there for friends and too cool to try hard. So, I had on my go-to “grandma sweater” and what Justin describes as the worst/ugliest shoes ever known to man. (I’m pretty sure they were the AE brown clogs.) I thought I was rocking the smart and sophisticated look, but listening to him crack jokes I think he would have described it more like “homely”. haha You’ve got to love his honesty.
We had a mutual friend, and so I asked for an introduction later in the night. Small talk this and small talk that. I’d ask a question and his friend would reply. I’d ask another question and his friend would reply again. What the heck? Well, if you know me well, you know I speak my mind. So, I blurted out, “do you think you’re too good to talk to me?”, and off I went walking away to make sure I had the last word. After this, I’m pretty sure him and his friend shared laughs and words that I was one crazy person.
Weeks went by and we kept running into each other. Each time we would say hello, but couldn’t remember the other one’s name. Exchanging the awkward, but intrigued, looks of I think I know you, but can’t remember your name for the life of me. After this happened a few times, we finally exchanged numbers.
He called one afternoon while my sister and I were out shopping and he asked if I wanted to get something to eat. I tried to blow him off and say that we were already eating. A few hours later he called again to see if I was up for a doing something else. I made up an excuse that I was still busy. Meanwhile, my sister is standing in front of me gesturing to say yes. So, I finally agreed to go see a late night movie with him.
The movie choice was horrible. I’m sure he picked. Of course, a movie is the absolute worst date idea if you have any intentions of talking and getting to know one another, but somehow we did, and it was THE BEST FIRST DATE EVER.
Who doesn’t love looking at some funny throw back photos? Man, we were babies!! Some of these photographs were taken almost 11 years ago!
