While Jen and Shawn have been together most of Robert’s life, it was on one warm Summer day, they officially became a family of three. Washington, D.C. was such a special place they called home, and so it was an easy decision that it would be the setting for their engagement session and wedding day. The bridal party was pampered with hair styling, makeup and drinks in their hotel suite at the Washington Court Hotel. Each bridesmaid dressed in a navy blue gown, tailored in style to fit their personalities, while the bridesMEN wore sleek navy blue suits and bow ties. On the surface, Jen was calm and collected, but in reality she was watching the clock iin hopes the time would come faster for her first look with her parents and two special men.
The father of the bride was a man of tough exterior. So, I was taken back when I found myself talking with him and he began to sing me a song about a little girl, “Jenny Rebecca, only 3 days new”. He explained that years ago, him and his wife had almost given up hope to expand their family when they learned of a little girl only 3 days new. What was just lyrics to a Barbara Streisand song, became a song that would resonate with the love and happiness this little girl brought to their family. It was that little girl, the bride, who melted his heart and made the first look and moments of “giving away” bittersweet for this dad.
It didn’t matter if it was a cab, Uber or a family friend driving, when it was time, everyone hoped in a car and headed over to Lower Senate Park for the bride, groom and son’s first look. It was a moment with much anticipation and ridiculously high temperatures.
Their ceremony and reception took place on the upscale rooftop at the Capitol View at 400 with amazing views of Union Station and Capitol Hill with their family and friends there to witness a day that they have looked forward to for so long. The city views, the stunning bouquets, Metro Station inspired centerpieces and decor made this stately affair truly unique. To make sure there was something for each of their guests to enjoy, the bride and groom treated them to a cupcake bar, ice cream sundaes and a night filled with dancing in the city lights.
